January 5th, 2018

We are excited to announce the launch of Green Monday at Bromsgrove School Mission Hills (BMH) here in Shenzhen!

Green Monday is a global sustainability initiative designed to promote green lifestyle choices one day a week with the goal of reducing individual carbon footprint and negative impact on the environment over time. It builds on the successful Meatless Monday and Healthy Monday programs started by the Monday Campaigns in 2003 with leading public health schools, including the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health in America.

Since then, these initiatives have been implemented in 36 countries. The universities who had joined Green Monday included Columbia University; University of California, Los Angeles; Washington University in St. Louis;

Anglia Ruskin University, UK; University of Newcastle (New South Wales); University of Sydney; Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; National University of Singapore; University of Tokyo; Korea University; Tsing Hua University; Peking University; South China Normal University; Fudan University, etc…. and now…. Bromsgrove School Mission Hills is the very FIRST elementary school and kindergarten in the whole of China to join this green effort!

BMH is the established by Mission Hills Group together with Bromsgrove School in United Kingdom. Mission Hills Group is China’s leading integrated golf, hospitality and leisure group with diversified businesses in golf, resorts, commercial property development, real estate, movie-themed parks and education.

Bromsgrove School, founded in 1553, is located closed to Birmingham in Central England and consistently ranks as one of the top co-educational boarding and day schools in the UK. BMH is designed as a bilingual, co-educational trough-train day school for students from Kindergarten (age 3) to university entrance and a day and boarding school for students from year 7 and up. It’ll be meaningful and intrinsically valuable opportunity for students in BMH to learn about environment protection and take actions from their early years.

Going green can be easy, starting with simple steps and behavioural changes that over time will lead to a greater environmental impact. At BMH, Green Monday will focus on themes including recycling, food and paper waste reduction, and energy conservation. Weekly tips for our school community will make it easy and fun to incorporate environment-friendly habits into daily routines.

Green Monday will kick-off on Monday, January 8th at both dining halls in the Prep School and Preschool. Students and faculties will be provided with delicious and varied vegetarian Chinese and Western foods meticulously prepared by our school’s 5-star chefs every Monday going forward. We hope by educating the young, we will begin to make a small yet fundamental difference that with have a rippling lifetime effect!
